Shaping Waves – Lankhorst Ropes partners with SurfWEC in development of more efficient wave energy converters

16-04-2019

Lankhorst Ropes is working with SurfWEC LLC, a partnership led by marine engineering firm Martin & Ottaway, to determine the most efficient mooring system for SurfWEC’s Wave Energy Converters (WECs). SurfWEC was formed to develop Wave Energy Converters using patented technology that shapes waves, enabling increased energy recovery rates.

Lankhorst Ropes will develop a mooring system consisting of ropes and equipment interface which allows efficient energy capture whilst enduring the dynamic forces of the ocean. Commenting, Mark Pieter Frölich, commercial director - USA, Lankhorst Ropes said, “Lankhorst Ropes looks forward to bringing its knowledge and experience of offshore mooring to this partnership with SurfWEC. Increasing sustainability is one of Lankhorst’s core values, and we are happy to join another project that will contribute towards this goal.

On the project, SurfWEC Chief Executive Officer, Rik van Hemmen said, “Partnering with industry leaders, such as Lankhorst Ropes, will help SurfWEC develop a technically and commercially viable Wave Energy Converter design. Working with Lankhorst Ropes and WireCo gives SurfWEC access to a range of high performance ropes as well as decades of offshore mooring expertise.
