Lanko®force with bio-based Dyneema® for Middle Eastern VLCC Operator

01-10-2020

One of the Middle East’s largest operators of Very Large Crude-oil Carriers (VLCCs) has chosen Lanko®force, made of bio-based Dyneema®, mooring lines from Lankhorst Ropes for the full conversion of a VLCC from steel wire to fibre rope mooring lines.

Fibre ropes offer substantial ease of use and handling benefits over steel wire mooring lines.

Lanko®force, made of bio-based Dyneema®, delivers the same performance as Lankhorst’s traditional ropes made of Dyneema®, but with the added benefit of significantly increasing the sustainability of maritime mooring and towing ropes for vessel operators.

The mooring lines for the VLCC will also feature a Dyneema® protective jacket to prevent rope abrasion.

We are delighted that Lanko®force made of bio-based Dyneema® has been selected for this important conversion of the VLCC from steel wire to fibre rope mooring lines,” says Mohamed Dawoud, regional manager, Lankhorst Ropes Middle East. “Many VLCC operators are putting sustainability at the heart of their operations. Lanko®force made of bio-based Dyneema® will assist in reducing still further the company’s carbon footprint across its shipping operations.”

Lankhorst Mooring Line Sustainability

Lankhorst Ropes is the first high performance rope maker to offer its maritime customers a rope made of Dyneema® produced in the most CO2 neutral and sustainable way. “Lankhorst’s bio-based Dyneema® ropes is an important addition to our mooring lines range as we work with ship operators to enhance their sustainability credentials,” says Wilco Stroet, managing director, Lankhorst Ropes.

Lankhorst’s bio-based Dyneema® ropes will carry the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification’s globally recognized ISCC Plus sustainability standard. ISCC is a globally applicable sustainability certification system and covers all sustainable feedstocks, including renewables.

The addition of Lanko®force made of bio-based Dyneema® combined with Lankhorst’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and logistics, longer lasting rope service-life, and rope recycling, allow levels of sustainability in mooring and towing line that significantly contribute to fleet operator environmental policies.
