08-06-2021

Lankhorst Ropes has received the Excellence in Sustainable Innovation Award at the ShipTek 2021 – International Conference & Awards held in Dubai. The award recognises Lankhorst’s development of the high performance Lanko®force rope made of bio-based Dyneema®.

“Lankhorst Ropes is honoured to receive ShipTek’s Excellence in Sustainable Innovation Award. Using bio-based Dyneema® to produce Lanko®force provides operators with the same performance as Lankhorst’s traditional ropes made of Dyneema® but significantly increases the sustainability of their maritime mooring and towing ropes, making a valuable contribution to reducing their overall environmental impact,” said Mohamed Dawoud, regional manager, Lankhorst Ropes Middle East.

Produced in the most CO2 neutral and sustainable way, Bio-based Dyneema® carries the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification’s globally recognized ISCC Plus sustainability standard. ISCC is a globally applicable sustainability certification system and covers all sustainable feedstocks, including renewables.

Sustainability from production to operation

On Lankhorst Ropes’ environmental initiatives, managing director Wilco Stroet said, “Over many years Lankhorst has worked with operators and industry partners to increase the sustainability of the maritime sector. In addition to introducing the first rope made from bio-based Dyneema®, Lankhorst was the first high performance rope maker to provide rope recycling of its maritime ropes. When combined with Lankhorst’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and logistics as well as enhancing rope service life, these initiatives make a significant contribution to maritime operator’s environmental policies.”
