Recently the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) announced that the European Barge Inspection Scheme (EBIS) will transition to OCIMF’s Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE) from 1 January 2021, creating a single barge inspection scheme within Europe.
Commenting on the move, Wilco Stroet, managing director at Lankhorst Ropes said, “Lankhorst welcomes Europe’s barge owners to the OCIMF. The creation of a single standard for barges operating in Europe will ensure a consistent high standard for inland shipping vessels and operators. Our inland shipping and wet cargo teams are ready to support barge operators with synthetic fibre and wire rope selection to meet the OCIMF’s new MEG4 standards.”
