Officers and sailors of Meridian Marine followed a rope training at Lankhorst Ropes Dordrecht
28 November 2011
A group of 10 officers and sailors of Meridian Marine visited Lankhorst Ropes Dordrecht on 17 and 18 November last. When sailing RoRo vessels on routes between Turkey and France, between Ireland and the UK and between the UK and the Continent, the handling of our Tipto Eight and Tipto Winchlines is daily routine. Between our Lankhorst UK office and the head office of Meridian it was agreed that a rope training at Lankhorst might enhance safety and efficiency on board. On Wednesday evening the group arrived in Dordrecht, and on Thursday morning they started splicing Tipto Eight under the supervision of our splicer Renzo Romano. On Friday morning they commenced on the Tipto Winchline. To receive the qualification they had to splice a breaker by themselves which is put on the testbed for an 'actual breaking' test. During the Thursday afternoon the group seated in a theory class where rope constructions and safety precautions were being discussed. Having done so and having reached a breaking strength in the breakers above the minimum required level, all ten mates graduated and received the Lankhorst Splicing Certificate on Friday. |
